7th June, 1916.

sir,

Referring to your despatch No. 88 of the 31st

March, I have the honour to recommend that the sterling salary

attaching to the post of Land Officer should be at the rate of

£660 rising to £780 by triennial increments of £30, and that

Mr. Jacks should be placed upon this scale with effect from the

date of his appointment.

I may refer to paragraph 20 of Mr. Chamberlain's

despatch No. 171 of the 13th June, 1902, whereunder the sterling

salary of the post was fixed at £600 rising to £780 by triennial

increments of 230. Under this scale the maximum salary is not attained until after eighteen years' service; whereas Mr. Wakeman and his predecessor drew at the fixed rate of £5,400, which prior to the grant of double exchange compensation approximated to £716, and from 1902 onwards has been the equivalent of 2810.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Amag

Governor, ko..

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

80..
